California School District Subjects Students To Marxist-Inspired Privilege Exercises

A California school district forced high school freshmen to evaluate their so-called âprivilegedâ identities and give a presentation on âsystems of oppression,â per a report from the Daily Wireâs Spencer Lindquist.
As part of its ethnic studies course, Alameda Unified School District in California gave students a handout titled âMy Relationship with Privilege and Oppression,â to determine âwhether you are privileged or oppressed.â
The handout lists 29 different identities and characteristics, such as race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, religion, and education level. These qualities are then used to determine each studentâs level of privilege. According to Lindquist, âWhite, male, Christian students without a criminal record are singled out as the epitome of privilege.â
In a separate assignment titled âA Map of Myself,â students were instructed to assess their own identities, categorizing each as a âposition of privilege or marginalization.â
âFor each identity domain ⌠consider if it puts you in a position of privilege or marginalization,â states the assignment. The âidentity domainsâ included race, ethnicity, biological sex, sexual orientation, and religion.
One portion of the course, titled âresistance and liberation,â covers the âhistory of resisting oppression as carried out by the oppressed groups themselves.â This part of the ethnic studies class supposedly âdirectly challenges the âWhite Saviorâ narrative.â Some vocabulary terms listed in the syllabus include âwhite supremacy,â âwhite privilege,â âmicroaggressions,â and âcolonized mind.â
Students also apparently partook in a "privlege walk," which is when people form a line and take steps forward or backward depending on their response to a series of questions related to topics like race, religion, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. The exercise is meant to give participants a visual representation of their comparative privilege.
The school district was also caught brazenly condoning and arguably recruiting students to participate in leftist activism. As Lindquist reported: âStudents were also asked to write an essay on successful political organizing strategies, including how leftwing movements âuse grassroots organizing and social media to be successful.â Students could choose from a list of leftist movements to discuss, including Black Lives Matter and the Black Panthers.â
Ultimately Californiaâs Alameda Unified School District is using taxpayer dollars to inculcate students with critical race theory, which is really just Marxism. âIn simple terms, critical race theory reformulates the old Marxist dichotomy of oppressor and oppressed, replacing the class categories of bourgeoisie and proletariat with the identity categories of White and Black,â explains journalist Christopher Rufo. âBut the basic conclusion is the same: in order to liberate man, society must be fundamentally transformed through moral, economic, and political revolution.â
