Club For Growth: Both Republicans and Democrats Now Overwhelmingly Support School Choice

Have Democrats finally found a blowout issue that theyâre on the right side of?
Their base seems to have at least, with a new poll from Club for Growth showing that 79% of Democrats support school choice.
The support among Independents is also 79%, and among Republicans it is 87%.
According to their press release:
These results come after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the Universal School Choice Act, which allows for up to $10 billion annually in dollar-for-dollar federal tax credits for individuals and businesses that contribute to non-profit education scholarship funds supporting K-12 students.
âOur latest poll confirmed what we already knew: school freedom isnât just good policy, itâs a winning issue politically,â said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. âOverwhelming majorities, across all demographics, want their children to attend the school that best fit their unique needs and support policies that make that happen. epublicans must continue to lead on this issue by adding Senator Cruzâs legislation to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which will give Republicans momentum with all voters heading into the 2026 midterms.â
Of course, that Democrat voters feel this way is no guarantee that the Party will feel the same - and everything suggests just the opposite. The issue of men in womenâs sports comes to mind, as most Democrat voters oppose it, yet the Party leadership has made it a cardinal issue.
Similarly, the Democrat establishment is incentivized not to side with their own voters on this due to them being in bed with teachers unions. The Democrat Partyâs de-facto Minister of Education Randi Weingarten, also known for pushing school closures during COVID, has long opposed school choice as it undermines the bureaucracy sheâs devoted her life to protecting (for the price of nearly $600,000 a year).
The likes of Weingarten push rhetoric that school choice comes at the expense of public schools, yet Twenty-five of 27 studies on this exact topic found that private school choice competition improves outcomes in public schools.
