Clueless DC Attorney General Claims You “Can’t Arrest Your Way Out of Crime”

In the wake of Donald Trump’s federal takeover of DC, video of DC’s Attorney General Brian Schwalb dismissing the best solution to crime as useless has resurfaced.
I wrote extensively about Schwalb in my new book “The Heir: Inside the (Not So) Secret Network of Alex Soros.” For some background. Schwalb won the 2022 DC Attorney General election and took office in January 2023 with Alex’s backing.
In his first year in office, he began investigating the political funding networks of Leonard Leo, a conservative activist who has created many influential conservative legal groups, all of which are registered in other states. In an attempt to avoid the obvious perception of political targeting, Schwalb also opened a show investigation into Arabella Advisors, which the Soros network often funnels money through.
It wasn’t until he faced allegations of politically targeting opponents from many, including the Wall Street Journal editorial board, that he opened the Arabella Advisors investigation. In other words, it’s one he only opened due to the optics of only investigating a conservative network.
The investigation into Leo came after a complaint from the left-wing group Campaign for Accountability, which alleged he profited from consulting fees through his network. Critics of the investigation pointed out that Arabella’s fee structure is similar.
Campaign for Accountability, which kicked off the investigation into Leo, itself started as a project in the Arabella Advisors network.
Before winning the AG spot, Schwalb worked for a law firm that has performed work for companies in Arabella’s sphere. To the surprise of no one, the investigation into Arabella Advisors would close in April 2024 with no charges filed, as was always going to be the case. As of writing, the Leo investigation preceding it goes on.
While tough on political opponents, Schwalb is weak on actual criminals. When it comes to young criminals specifically (which is most criminals), he has taken a “let kids be kids” approach, which means: “let kids be criminals.”
In June 2023, his office dropped charges against an eleven-year-old boy accused of assault and robberies—only for the child to be arrested again immediately for armed robbery. In another case, a fifteen-year-old carjacker’s charges were dropped, enraging even the teen’s own foster parents. According to police data, 88 percent of carjacking arrests in early 2024 involved the minors that Schwalb refuses to hold accountable.
Overall, in 2023, violent crime rose 39 percent and motor vehicle theft surged 82 percent in DC. In the face of this, Schwalb kept doubling down on the same failed policies that caused it in the first place.
Schwalb has also opposed legislation that would’ve increased penalties and detention for criminals, specifically when it comes to juveniles. He publicly opposed Mayor Muriel Bowser’s so-called “tough on crime” bill, which ultimately just undid some of the weak-on-crime policies she herself implemented during the George Floyd-era racial hysteria.
