Democrats’ Tariff Hypocrisy Exposed in Resurfaced Clips

Lately, big-name Democrats like Nancy Pelosi have been slamming Donald Trump’s tariff plans, calling them reckless and a burden on everyday Americans. The twist? These same folks were singing a different tune when their party was the one waving the tariff flag.
Back in the day, Democrats weren’t shy about pushing tariffs to protect U.S. workers. Pelosi herself cheered on trade barriers when they were pitched as a way to level the playing field for American manufacturing.
During the Clinton Administration, she argued "On this day, your member of Congress could have drawn the line to say to the President of the United States, do something about this US-China trade relationship that is a job loser for the United States."
Surprisingly, Chuck Schumer was fine with Trump’s proposed tariffs on China during his first term.
They’re not echoing that rhetoric anymore, of course.
And they’re not the only ones. Bernie Sanders defended tariffs in 2008, and Barack Obama called the same kind of reciprocal tariffs Trump has in 2018. Trump himself has been consistent on the issue, calling for tariffs as early as 1988 on an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show.
Democrats have flipped the script for politics, while Trump has doubled down.
