Nikki Haley today said rumors that she will replace Pence on the GOP’s 2020 ticket are false. The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said “enough of the false rumors” in a tweet that included a photograph of her with Vice President Pence at the U.N. “Vice President Pence has been a dear friend of mine for years. He has been a loyal and trustworthy VP to the President. He has my complete support.”

While Fox News said it wasn’t immediately clear what prompted Haley to mention the rumors on twitter just hours ago, there has been suggestions in the media before. “In June, a Wall Street Journal opinion piece called for Trump to run with Haley in 2020 as a way to appeal to ‘politically moderate suburban women.”

Trump immediately refuted the suggestion on Maria Bartiromo’s show on Fox Business when he said “I love Nikki. She’s endorsed me. She’s my friend. She’s a part of my campaign. But Mike has been a great vice president. He’s a hundred percent.” Haley was governor of South Carolina for six years before joining the Trump administration where she served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations until she resigned last year.
