In a brief moment of sanity, the New York Times admitted that mass migration causes the prices of commodities to skyrocket, including the cost of housing.
The Times was covering recent anti-immigration protests that rocked Mexico City, fueled by the increasing cost of living caused by the influx of foreign residents, especially Americans.
During the protests, thousands of the city's residents took to the streets to protest the increasing cost of renting a house and the displacement of local residents. “The demonstration reflected the growing frustrations of many of the capital’s residents, who have watched rents skyrocket and old neighborhoods turn into swanky developments as the city has become a major tourist destination and a base for many so-called digital nomads,” the NYT reported.
Mexico City has a population of nine million and 10,000 American “digital nomads” living in it, making up 0.11% of the population. The United States has a population of 340 million and upwards of 30 million illegal aliens in it, or about 9% of the total - a percent 88 times greater than the nomads to Mexico City residents ratio.
If it’s driving up costs in Mexico City, there’s no question it’s doing the same in the U.S.
