Gavin Newsom Needs to Borrow Over $3 Billion to Fund “Free” Healthcare for Illegals Program

Gavin Newsom’s new podcast may be off to a good start, but his state is in as poor shape as ever.
Gov. Newsom will be forced to borrow $3.44 billion to fund his free healthcare program for illegal aliens after previously boasting of a budget reconciliation measure that allowed the state to offer free healthcare for illegal immigrants, claiming California was the first to offer universal healthcare for “all residents.”
Including those that have no right to be there.
According to POLITICO:
California will need to borrow $3.44 billion to close a budget gap in the state’s Medicaid program, Newsom administration officials told lawmakers Wednesday in a letter obtained by POLITICO. The budget pressure will bring fresh scrutiny to the state’s coverage of [illegal] immigrants, which is costing more than first budgeted.
Originally, the state estimated it would cost around $3 billion per year to insure that population. But one year after the program has been fully implemented, it’s turning out to be more expensive than anticipated.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s current budget proposal estimates the state will shell out $8.4 billion to cover [illegal] immigrants in Medi-Cal in 2024-2025, and $7.4 billion in 2025-2026.
This means that about 1 out of every 50 tax dollars in California’s budget is allocated to “free” healthcare for illegals, and that doesn’t include money illegals are costing through the emergency room loophole. The amount allocated for illegals in 2025-26 is greater than the expected tax revenue from insurance taxes, alcohol taxes, cigarette taxes, and motor vehicle fees combined.
Over 6.2 million people left California in the 2010s decade (with a net loss of 1.3 million once accounting for people who moved in), and the bleeding has never stopped. California continued losing population last year, with more than half of those leaving having incomes of $150k or more.
