Rep. Brandon Gill Takes So-Called DEI Expert to Task

Rep. Brandon Gill is going viral for schooling Dr. Shaun Harper, a diversity expert (whatever that means) during a congressional hearing titled “Sacrificing Excellence for Ideology: The Real Cost of DEI.”
Asking for “Yes” or “No” answers Rep. Gill asked Harper, who supports racial quotas and affirmative action, whether Americans should be treated differently based on their skin color.
He refused to directly answer the question, sidestepping it by responding that all racial demographics should be represented at all levels of government and organizations. He also claimed that people are entitled to support and “remedies” that are “owed to them,” suggesting that they should receive preferential treatment. In other words, the answer is “yes,” but he wants to try to justify it.
“Should people be treated differently based on their race?” Rep. Gill asked. “It’s a yes or no question.”
“It’s not a yes or no question, people should receive the services, support, and remedies that are owed to them because of systemic racism,” he replied. Harper clearly supports preferential treatment, but doesn’t want to say it explicitly for the purpose of optics.
When asked if race should be a factor during employment, he said “I believe that diversity should be considered by companies and other organizations.”
“I’ll take that as yes,” Rep. Gill responded. “Which race do you think should be preferred?”
Shaun denied suggesting that race should be a priority during hiring decisions, but insisted all demographics should be represented in Congress, the military, and business - which can only happen due to preferential treatment (assuming there aren’t enough qualified applicants).
“If two people are applying for college. One is white and one is black. Should they be evaluated based on the same objective criteria?” Rep. Gill followed up.
Conveniently, he “can’t answer that question for you as a proponent of holistic education.”
