Reporter Confronts Biden on Poll Showing Most Americans Don’t Find Him Competent

Following a border crisis, rising inflation, a labor shortage, and now the disaster in Afghanistan, Joe Biden’s approval rating turned net-negative last week for the first time in his presidency in the Real Clear Politics average of polls.

There has also been a collapse in confidence in Biden’s competence. While it’s unclear how there was ever any to begin with, a recent CBS poll found that a majority of Americans no longer think Biden is fit for the presidency. A reporter asked Biden about that poll at his most recent presser: “The majority of Americans- and forgive me, I’m just the messenger-  no longer consider you to be competent, focused or effective at your job.”

In response,  Biden tried to laugh it off.

The CBS poll had Biden’s approval at net zero (50-50), and found that there’s been a “more specific impact on qualities the public sees in Mr. Biden.” Those qualities include competence, focus, and effectiveness, with confidence in them all falling below 50%.
