NYC Mayoral Race: Ron DeSantis Jokes About Looming NYC Exodus

How sad is it when the lesser of two evils in the NYC Mayoral primary is somehow the guy who put COVID patients in senior living homes and resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations?
Such is the case in Andrew Cuomo facing off against Zohran Mamdani, a New York State House Representative and member of the Democratic Socialists of America thatâs promising government owned grocery stores, freezing rent, free city busses, increasing corporate taxes, a $30 minimum wage (by 2030), taxpayer funded gender transitions, amid other far-left policies.
Mamdani is so radical that even the New York Times editorial board advised their readers not to vote for him. The editors of the leftist Chicago Star Tribune also advised anyone listening in New York to vote against him, citing Mayor Brandon Johnson as an example of what that kind of governance leads to. Of course, itâs not like the candidates those two publications support are much better. Despite that, he all but clinched victory last night, winning the first round (NYC uses ranked choice voting). While he didn't reach the 50% threshold, he was close enough that Cuomo conceded the election.
The biggest beneficiaries of a Mamdani mayoralship could be Red states - under the condition that fleeing New Yorkers donât bring their politics with them.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis weighed in ahead of the results âIâm not a political prognosticator knowing whatâs going to happen in that Mayorâs race thatâs going on right now. But I will tell you if that leftist does win, youâre going to see Palm Beach real estate go up another 20%. That will happen very quickly.â
âAs bad as some of what theyâve had, this is like (Bill) de Blasio on steroids.â
DeSantis made a similar joke when Johnson, who now has a 7% approval rating, became mayor of Chicago. âYou know, I have to watch what goes on in these other states because it affects my state when this guy gets elected mayor of Chicago. Left of the left. Naples real estate is now going up again because people are fleeing. Thatâs just what happens. I mean, itâs crazy,â he said back in April 2023.
