SCOTUS to Rule on Trump Bid to End “Dreamers” Immigration Program

The Supreme Court has agreed to rule on whether President Trump acted lawfully when he moved to end Democrats’ “Dreamer” immigration program which prevents the deportation of illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.

The Epoch Times reports:

The nine justices took up the Trump administration’s appeals of three lower court rulings that blocked his 2017 move to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program implemented in 2012 by his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama. The program currently protects about 700,000 illegal immigrants often called “Dreamers,” mostly Hispanic young adults, from deportation and provides them work permits, though not a path to citizenship.

States including New York and California as well as individual DACA recipients and civil rights groups have all filed lawsuits against the Trump administration’s actions on the policy.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments and rule on the case some time between October and June of 2020.
