Sen. Hawley Presses Biden Energy Official on Pay-to-Play Events

Senator Josh Hawley grilled the director of the Biden Department of Energyâs âLoan Programs Officeâ Jigar Shah over his alleged conflicts of interest.
Hawley questioned Shah over his appearances at conferences and events, including some hosted by a group that he founded called Cleantech Leaders, where businessmen who could be seeking loans from his office have to pay to be in attendance.
âSo you do attend dinners with industry leaders where they pay to see you speak? Was that a yes or a no? I didnât hear,â Hawley asked Shah, who deflected that he attends âmany, many eventsâ that heâs invited to speak at, and some where âpeople pay to attend.â
