Soros Fund Looking to Invest in Widely-Ridiculed Left-Wing Propaganda Outlet “MeidasTouch”

George Soros may have stepped down from his Open Society Foundations (OSF) in 2023 and handed over control to his son, but his hedge fund Soros Fund Management (SFM) has remained politically active too. 

Since George stepped down from the OSF, SFM has scooped up an equity stake in Vice Media Group, and became the largest shareholder in Audacy (which made headlines due the Biden FCC fast-tracking the purchase ahead of the 2024 election). While George was still part of the OSF, his SFM purchased an undisclosed stake in Crooked Media, which publishes Pod Save America, one of the most popular left-wing podcasts. A deal of theirs to purchase 18 Hispanic radio stations in 2022 also made headlines, as it included the conservative Radio Mambi station. 

The latest network to interest the Soros media empire is MeidasTouch, a rising liberal media network with a reputation for posting clickbait, misleading narratives and misinformation in easily digestible formats to a largely unsophisticated liberal audience. 

Semafor is reporting that: 

Soros Fund Management, which is now owned by the foundation and whose media portfolio includes the liberal podcast powerhouse Crooked Media, is among potential investors who have held conversations with the vigorously anti-Trump outlet MeidasTouch, Semafor has learned, though one person familiar with the situation cautioned that the talks were exploratory.

Earlier this year, Semafor reported that Soros Fund Management’s leading media investor, Michael Del Nin, was among the speakers at a private gathering of liberal and center-left digital media experts, who wanted to hear about his strategies for acquiring media companies.

I have found no credible reports that SFM is now owned by the OSF (though the two are closely tied), but the relevant part here is that Soros involvement is undeniable nonetheless, regardless of whether it’s George or Alex that are more involved, there’s no question that there’s Soros involvement, period.  

MeidasTouch is a prolific spreader of misinformation on social media. To give just a few examples:

• In numerous videos from 2021 and 2022 they pushed the claim that Trump ordered the National Guard to stand down on January 6 - when in fact he authorized 10,000 troops days earlier. 
• In March 2022 they made a video go viral of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene appearing to refuse to applaud Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky. The clip was deceptively edited - MTG did in fact applaud Zelensky before, during, and after the ovation. 
• In the summer of 2022 they claimed that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis banned books on the holocaust. They were not banned - the law in question restricts classroom instruction on sexual orientation/gender identity in K–3, not history. The claim was based on a single isolated removal of the book “Maus” in one county from a curriculum (which was reversed).  
• In September 2023, they claimed that Trump had suggested feeding migrant children to alligators in a Truth Social post. The Truth Social post in question doesn’t even mention children. 
• In December 2023 they ran a headline claiming that Donald Trump confessed “We’ve been waging an all out war on American democracy.” From the context, Trump clearly meant to say that the left was doing this and misspoke - it was not an admission. 
• In September 2024, they claimed that Trump said he would be a “dictator on day one” citing  a heavily edited video. Trump said, in a clearly tongue-in-cheek comment, that he’d be a dictator on day one to close the border and drill for oil, but “after that, I’m not a dictator.” The ending was cut from the video.  

The quality of the lies is so poor and embarrassing to other left-wing propagandists that even left-leaning outlets like CNN and Snopes routinely correct them.
