Teachers Union Boss Randi Weingarten Jumps Ship From DNC After 23 Years

In the wake of David Hoggâs ouster as DNC Vice Chair, American Federation of Teachers boss Randi Weingarten is the latest to head towards the exit as the DNC civil war heats up. (Despite the timing, itâs doubtful that anyone is following David Hoggâs lead on anything).
Ending her 23-year tenure meddling in the Democrat Partyâs internal leadership, she formally notified DNC officials of her resignation in a letter dated June 5 (that isnât making news until now).
In her message to DNC Vice Chair Ken Martin, she complained about partyâs current leadership direction and growing disagreements about its priorities; âWhile I am proud to be a Democrat, I appear to be out of step with the leadership you are forging, and I do not want to be the one who keeps questioning why we are not enlarging our tent and actively trying to engage more and more of our communities,â Weingarten wrote.
According to LifeZette, quoting a DNC spokesperson:
âRandi has gotten applause from the members when she told them, much to her dismay as a proud Dem,â referring to her support for broader representation and intra-party engagement.
Weingarten declined an offer to continue as an at-large member of the DNC, a position that would have allowed her to remain involved despite her concerns.
Weingartenâs annual compensation as the AFT head totals nearly $570,000.
Weingarten and the AFT played a significant role in advocating for prolonged school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to substantial educational setbacks for students across the nation. This contributed to falling test scores (that werenât great to begin with), increased mental health problems, and normalized absenteeism. This occurred as the âsettled scienceâ had already proven that young people arenât at risk of dying of COVID, with the flu being more deadly to some age cohorts.
