These Are the Democrats Who Could Be Out of Office Following Texas Redistricting

As has made national news, Texas Democrats fled the state in an effort to prevent a redistricting plan that would likely cost Democrats five seats in the House of Representatives - an effort that will prove futile. The current Texas congressional map has led to 25 Republican seats and 13 Democrat seats. 

That five Democrat seats are at risk is common knowledge at this point, but which specific representatives will be affected hasn’t been talked about as much. 

They would be: Reps. Greg Casar, Lloyd Doggett, Henry Cuellar, Vincente Gonzalez, and Al Green.

Casar is among the most left-wing members of Congress, and is part of the cringe-inductingly named “Squad,” alongside AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley. 

Cuellar is accused of accepting nearly $600k from Azerbaijan and a Mexican commercial bank to influence U.S. policy, and his criminal trial is scheduled for next month. 

Green is now best known for getting himself kicked out of Trump’s address to Congress, and filing impeachment articles against Trump that will go nowhere. 

Thus far, redistricting plans nationwide could add 14 total Republican seats. The current House composition is 219 Republicans to 212 Democrats (with 4 vacancies), so that alone would change the balance of power to 233-198, a 35 seat majority (assuming the unlikely scenario that all other seats stayed the same). 

Meanwhile, even without the exclusion of illegal aliens in population totals, blue states are set to lose 9 seats, while red states are set to pick up 10. 

As Charlie Kirk pointed out, while the Constitution calls a Census must be done within every 10 year period, there’s no prohibition on performing more, meaning these seats could be reapportioned sooner rather than later.
