Treasury Secretary Bessent Has Blunt Warning If NYC Elects Mamdani

As Zohran Mamdani’s lead against his challengers reaches 20-points (45% to Cuomo’s 25%), it’s more likely than ever that the Democratic Socialists of America member is going to be the next Mayor of New York City. Even with Adams and Sliwa dropping out, a Mamdani victory is likely at this point.
New York has already been among the states leading the nation in population loss. From just mid-2020 to 2024 alone the state lost nearly a net 1 million residents, second only to California. New York is projected to lose two seats in the House in the 2030 Census solely due to population loss (while California is projected to lose three, and Florida and Texas to gain four each).
With an avowed socialist running the state’s biggest city, which accounts for 40% of the state’s population, the exodus we’ve seen so far is only getting started.
When Mamdani inevitably leads the city to a complete financial collapse, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made it clear that they’re on their own.
"I guarantee you, and there are not a lot of things in life that are for sure, that New York City will be coming to the federal government for a bailout if Mamdani’s plans are implemented."
“And are you going to give them that bailout” host Maria Bartiromo asked.
“It’s the same thing that Gerald Ford said: drop dead.”
