President-elect/Acting President Trump has renewed his interest in Greenland, asserting that U.S. ownership is essential for national security and would offer economic benefits to Greenlanders. Trump has previously expressed interest in acquiring Greenland during his first term in office.
In response, Greenland's Prime Minister, MĂște Egede, has reiterated that the island is not for sale as he is pursuing greater independence from Denmark. Though he did say "Everyone is welcome to visit our country, including Trump. When the future president's son, who is also his own advisor, shows interest in our country, it means that Greenland is serious."
