Former Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta resigned after his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein’s Florida trial came to light. There was criticism that Acosta handled Epstein’s Florida prostitution charges against Epstein with “kid-gloves.”

Yesterday afternoon President Trump officially nominated Eugene Scalia, son of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to be his next secretary of labor. Scalia is a partner at the corporate law firm “Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and was a top lawyer for George W. Bush’s Labor Department“ reported The National Review.

Trump tweeted of his nominee: “Gene has led a life of great success in the legal and labor field and is highly respected not only as a lawyer, but as a lawyer with great experience working with labor and everyone else.” Trump followed up with “He will be a great member of an Administration that has done more in the first 2.5 years than perhaps any Administration in history!”

When Congress returns from their summer recess, Scalia will have a confirmation hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committees.
