The UK and U.S. just signed a new technology pact aimed at strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and civil nuclear energy. As part of the agreement, leading U.S. companies, headed by Microsoft, committed $42 billion in fresh investments in joint ventures with the UK.

The initiative, branded the “Tech Prosperity Deal,” coincided with President Donald Trump’s second state visit to Britain.

According to the UK government, the pact will create joint projects to develop AI models for healthcare, expand quantum computing capacity, and accelerate civil nuclear initiatives. Officials said the agreement is designed to spur economic growth, bolster scientific research, and reinforce energy security across both nations.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed the accord as a milestone with the power to “shape the future of millions of people on both sides of the Atlantic” while delivering new opportunities for growth and stability.

The U.S. remains Britain’s largest single trading partner, with American tech firms already investing heavily in the UK economy.

The U.S. and UK previously signed a trade deal in mid-June resulted in a blanket 10% tariff on UK goods imported into the U.S., and a 10-25% tariff range on cars that is sharply lower from the 50% levy slapped on vehicles imported to the U.S. from other trade partners - among many other details.
